Alison Jones
I am the Sustainable transport officer for Willoughby Council and strong believer that the bicycle will have a much greater role in Australia in the future. Keen to get first hand experience of the Dutch bicycle infrastructure before the review of our local bike plan in 2011.
Andrea McAdam
Andrea works as a medical scientist in Pathology at Alice Springs Hospital in Central Australia. She commutes by bike, and rides MTB tracks for fun. Her first cycling experiences were as a teenager in Leiden where her family lived for several months. She has lived and cycled in Sydney and Melbourne and has never owned a car. She is a strong supporter of sustainable and healthy activities for individuals and communities. To celebrate turning 50 she went on a remote outback cycle tour from Uluru to Alice Springs ‘because she could’.
Anna Haygreen
Anna is a Sustainable Transport Officer at Boroondara City Council in Melbourne. Her work is focused on encouraging students to ride and walk to school. She is looking forward to learning from the Dutch example where 49% of primary school children ride to school. Anna rides to get around and because its fun. She first became passionate about cycling when she went on a 6 week tour around Victoria with The Otesha Project 2 years ago
Annette Davies
Annette is a keen cycling advocate and interested in Dutch cycling infrastructure.
Ben Grounds
Ben Grounds has extensive experience in transport planning and especially sustainable transport and behaviour change. Ben is the Transport Strategy Coordinator for Darebin City Council, known for it’s best-practice sustainable transport planning. Ben commutes thousands of kilometres by bike each year, and has enjoyed many holidays touring by bike.
Bernard Hockings
Bernard is a builder and sustainable development consultant providing training and advisory services to government and industry throughout Australia and New Zealand. He’s currently building his own zero carbon house in Newcastle. He cycles for transport and fun.

Bill is the Managing Director of Human Powered Cycles bicycle store in Thornbury, Melbourne (www.humanpowered.com.au), and a supporter of practical city bicycles.
Cr Sam Gaylard
Elected as a Greens Councillor representing Nicholls Ward (North Carlton, North Fitzroy, Princes Hill, and parts of Fitzroy and Clifton Hill) in November 08. He was working on developing Council’s Bicycle Strategy, which calls for the construction of five onroad separate bike paths.
Elaena Gardener
Bicycles are Elaena’s main form of transport. Elaena is President of BIKESydney http://bikesydney.org and, with a small volunteer team, works to improve cycling conditions and encourage people to ride for transport and fun.
Gael Reid and Graham Hunter
Gael is the Sustainable Transport & Road Safety Officer with Maribyrnong City Council and a keen cycling advocate. Graham works in the petro-chemical engineering field (someone has to provide the fuel for aeroplanes!). He is a keen MTBer and rides a bike to work every day rain hail or shine.
Garry Paddick
Gary & Patricia are the owners of ‘Spokes Bicycles’ store in Mooroolbark & Ferntree Gully, Melbourne (http://melbournecommunities.org.au/myspokes.html), and a supporter of practical city bicycles.

The Gosbell Family, JAKEB (Joel, Andrew, Kerryn, Emma & Ben)
We are a six bike, one hitch, one car family of five living in outer metropolitan Melbourne. Our bike riding includes enjoying family rides for pleasure (often involving members of our extended family – Grandparents, uncles & cousins), as well as cycling for transport to work, shopping and sporting commitments. Our bikes are part of our mix of transport options which also include walking and public transport.
Kerryn, the mother, works as a ‘Health Promotion Officer – Active Transport’ for Knox Community Health Service. Her current work focuses on women and children, and it is with this target group in mind that she wants to participate and learn from the dutch cycling experience.
Jan Garrard
Jan is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Deakin University (part-time), and an active transport research and evaluation consultant. She conducts research into the promotion and safety of cycling, with a focus on women’s participation in cycling. She is keen to get some first-hand experience of how the Netherlands has managed to make cycling safe and appealing for all citizens, regardless of age and gender.
Joanne Jones
Co-Founder and Director of BikeWise (www.bikewise.com.au) an organisation providing cyclist education and consultancy in Sydney. Jo also produces a weekly radio show called BikeLove on 2SER, 107.3fm, podcasts available on www.bikelove.wordpress.com
John Davies
Both John and Annette are keen cycling advocates and interested in Dutch cycling infrastructure.
Lorraine Lloyd
Lorraine works as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist, rides to work, rides for fitness, and generally prefers to cycle than use the car.
Lyn Patrick
Lyn is a recreational cyclist and Landscape Architect at Lake Macquarie City Council. Her work includes cycle planning in town centres and design of cycleways throughout the city. Recent projects include the Fernleigh Track which links Newcastle and Lake Macquarie along 15 km of disused rail corridor and the ‘Red Bluff’ boardwalk which completes 9km of foreshore cycleways around Lake Macquarie.
Marilyn Hughes:
Marilyn cycles for transport and is interested in Dutch cycling infrastructure. Marilyn is retired after working 37 years for the Australian Government. All the information she learns from the tour will be passed onto ‘Pedal Power’ (a cycling organisation in Canberra who provide information to the local government in Canberra for improvements to the local cycling infrastructure.

Paul is a strong ‘cycling for transport’ advocate, who also enjoys the sport of cycling. He wants to see our focus shift to moving people, not cars & he sees the bicycle as the ultimate transport tool for this purpose. Poor infrastructure and laws stifling cycling are areas he is particularly interested in changing.
Paul van Bellen
Paul believes if you want to get more people cycling in Australia, you need to make it more attractive, easy and convenient. Paul was born in the Netherlands and it the instigator and leader of the Dutch Study tour.
Paulo Alberton
Paulo is Brazilian-born filmmaker based in Sydney and is a member of the media team. Before working in film, he worked as an airline pilot. From aviation he inherited a technical mind and an interest in diverse cultures and human stories. Paulo is the happy new owner of an electric bicycle. www.pauloalberton.com
Rowena Crowe
As a daily commuter Rowena is constantly faced with disconnected bicycle paths and busy roads. She feels passionately about inviting people to enjoy the experience of riding a bike and educating drivers about sharing the road safely. Veronika Valena
Veronika uses the bicycle to get around whenever she can. She finds that Australian bicycle infrastructure generally very poor & disconnected, with a road environment that puts cyclists & pedestrians at risk.
